On this trip, you’ll bond with your loved ones as you meet the students and staff of the Academy, learn what life in Chongón is like, and plant the trees that will secure the perimeter of our school in an environmentally innovative way.

Why a living fence?

  • THE REASON

    THE REASON

Securing the Young Living Academy's growing campus is essential to maintaining a safe environment for our students to learn in. When the YLA security team proposed a new fence around the property, we proposed a living fence that is beautiful and does good for our students and our planet. Young Living Foundation Ecuador staff began researching the best trees for the job and decided on Physic Nut for the hardness of its trunk and Lime Prickly Ash for its branches and height which makes the fence less permeable.

YLA staff, students, parents, and Young Living brand partners began planting the trees in November 2023, and have since planted hundreds of infant trees that will grow into a secure perimeter around the school's grounds. And now, you can put your hands and heart to work assisting with the efforts!

Once completed, the fence will be comprised of 20,000 trees spanning a length of 6,372 feet (1,942 meters) and is projected to absorb 388 tons of CO2 per year! This means that not only will the living fence protect the Young Living Academy's grounds, but it is also projected to offset the increased urbanization in the Chongón area.
