Log OutThe cracking cinder-block building wasn’t some architectural ruin. It was a school in the disadvantaged community of Chongón, Ecuador, where 42 children, from first- through sixth-grade, crammed together for an inefficient day of learning.
When Young Living Founder D. Gary Young saw children entering and exiting this building while building the Young Living Ecuador farm, his perspective shifted and his heart opened. If his own children were attending a school like that he would do something about it, so why not do something for these children? Gary went on to design and build the beautiful Young Living Academy that today supports 350 students.
Because our founder chose to see potential where others saw despair—the potential within each individual to achieve greatness—and because he consistently acted in accordance with that vision, he forever changed how we see the world and respond to those in need.
He was the definition of a Freedom Builder.
“The greatest happiness we find is when we help others, especially those in tremendous need.”
— D. Gary Young
