We have recently learned that thousands of people in Uganda (children and adults) are victims of a parasitic insect called jiggers. The sole cause of this is because they don't have any shoes to wear. 

The female jigger parasite is a sand flee and it will burrow into people's feet and multiply by the hundreds within the soft tissue of the skin. The resulting wounds can become so excruciating that normal childhood activities—such as walking, running, playing, and even attending school—can be significantly limited.

Sole Hope Outreach provides extensive treatment, and education, so people are empowered to treat any future cases of jiggers themselves.
